Honored
The Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation named Professor of Psychology Scott Churchill a 2014 Piper Professor. The award, which annually honors 10 professors in Texas colleges and universities for outstanding achievement in the teaching profession, is widely regarded as the most prestigious of its kind in the state and comes with an honorarium.

Carolyn M. Gutowski, Ph.D. '73's book "Grandparents Are Forever" laid the basis for the formation of the Grandmothers Corps in the Indiana/Latrobe,PA area. A September "Grandparents Are Forever" seminar/workshop was held to expand the movement within the Greensburg and Altoona-Johnstown, PA region.

Duquesne Advances in U.S. News National Ranking
Duquesne University rose five spots in the annual U.S. News & World Report ranking of top schools, reaching No. 116, the highest spot in University history in this widely recognized ranking. The University also was acknowledged as one of the nation’s schools with the greatest value and as a top school for veterans.

2014 Mind, Heart and Spirit Award Recipients Announced
The Young Alumni Council is proud to announce the 2014 Mind, Heart and Spirit Award Recipients: Michelle Kane, N’09, Matthew Rudzki, L’13, David Watkins, GLPA’12, Colin White, A’07 and Keith Wolfe, GE’08. The award ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 21.

University Mourns the Passing of Dean Emerita of Nursing
The Duquesne University community is mourning the loss of Dr. Eileen Zungolo, dean emerita of nursing who served as nursing dean from 2002-2012.

Costa Rica President Receives Honorary Degree
The School of Law presented an honorary law degree to Costa Rica President Luis Guillermo Solís during his historic visit to Duquesne’s campus.

School of Pharmacy to Host Health and Wellness Fair
In honor of American Pharmacists Month, nearly 80 faculty and student pharmacists from the Mylan School of Pharmacy are hosting a free Health and Wellness Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. in Market Square.

16th Annual Veterans Breakfast
Hailed as one of the largest Veterans Breakfast events in the Commonwealth, Duquesne will host nearly 700 guests on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Jessica Wright, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel Readiness, will be the guest speaker.

Red Masquers Begin 102nd Season
The Duquesne Red Masquers will begin their season with John Van Druten's "I Am a Camera." The show runs Oct. 2-4 and 9-11 at 8pm.



CONSOL Energy Center to Host 2017 A-10 Championship
The Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship will take on a new look when it moves to CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2017 and to Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., in 2018.

Dukes Down West Liberty, Remain Perfect at Home
The football team extended its home winning streak to eight games with a 39-13 victory over West Liberty during Homecoming weekend.

Duquesne Represented at Coaches vs. Cancer Event
Head basketball coaches Jim Ferry and Dan Burt took part in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Madness event on Sept. 29 at Heinz Field.
