Salman Named as School of Nursing's First Fulbright Scholar
Associate Nursing Professor Dr. Khlood Salman has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, and will travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to study the impact of culture and religion on breast cancer prevention among Muslim women.

Duquesne Scientist Receives $445K Grant for Laser Technology
Dr. Jennifer Aitken, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry in the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, has received her third NSF grant to further develop the optics in the semiconductor crystals she has created.  This three-year NSF grant will allow her to develop semiconductors that will shift the wavelengths of laser lights for eventual uses in military, medical, industrial and commercial products.

Record Number of Undergrads Present at Research Symposium
The Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences hosted 143 undergraduate science students from throughout the greater Pittsburgh area who presented their research to peers, science faculty and local professionals at the 19th Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium on July 29.

Alex Brennsteiner, HS'12, has translated the influence of the Spiritan charism on his education at Duquesne into his current work in the health care field. As Clinical Program Manager for Highmark Health Home and Community Services, he has been inspired by the Spiritan aphorism, "More by deed than word."

William F. Caye II, BA '90, JD '93 recently was a finalist for PA Governor Tom Wolf's merit selection committee's nominations for filling interim judicial vacancies in the Commonwealth by appointment. Bill next may be seen guest speaking on trial practices at the Cyril Wecht Institute on campus during the upcoming Fall CLE series.
