Alumni Association Endowed Scholarships

To help alumni pass on the legacy of a Duquesne education to their children and grandchildren, the Alumni Association and many generous donors have established two endowed scholarship programs—one is need-based and the other merit-based.

Criteria for the scholarships are as follows:

Merit-Based Endowed Scholarship (for incoming freshmen): Award amount generally around $4,000 for the school year

  • Be the child, stepchild or grandchild of a Duquesne University graduate
  • Enroll at Duquesne as a full time freshman in the upcoming academic year
  • Demonstrate high academic merit throughout high school as evidenced by strong high school academic scores, SAT or ACT results, and other academic accomplishments

Financial need is not a consideration for this scholarship. The scholarship is renewable through 8 consecutive undergraduate semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative 2.5 GPA. An essay is required to be considered for the Merit-Based scholarship.

Qualified incoming Freshmen who submit a valid application for the Merit-Based Endowed Scholarship and also meet the requirements for the Need-Based Endowed Scholarship, (such as having demonstrated unmet financial need for the upcoming academic year) are encouraged to apply separately for the Need Based Endowed Scholarship.

Need-Based Endowed Scholarship: Award amount generally between $200 and $3,000 for the year

  • Be the child, stepchild, or grandchild of a Duquesne University graduate
  • Have an cumulative QPA/GPA of at least 2.5 (for students entering their freshman year, high school grades will be reviewed)
  • Demonstrate financial need. (The FAFSA form MUST be completed for the upcoming academic year and on file in Duquesne University’s Office of Financial Aid.)
  • Be enrolled as a full time undergraduate in the upcoming school year.
  • FAFSA forms must be processed by the Office of Financial Aid for the upcoming academic year to be considered for the scholarship. Please allow adequate time for processing.

This scholarship is not automatically renewed - students must re-apply each academic year. The deadline for submission of a completed scholarship application, including FAFSA, is May 1.
